The lemon tour in Amalfi

a walk along lemon terraces learning the secret of limoncello

Experiences

DESCRIPTION:

Walking in the valley behind Amalfi we discover that the most part of lemons used to make limoncello or granita, are cultivated in this place.

A particular kind of lemon, the so-called "sfusato amalfitano" typical of this area.
The sun, the air of the sea, the river close-by make this lemon special.
That's the reason why the taste is unique!

We have the opportunity to walk along lemon terraces, in a narrow valley, learn about the economy of Amalfi based on lemon production.

We can also go and visit a small organic farm where we can have a light lunch, we can taste local products, the lemon juice and meet the family owner of the farm, living in this valley.
They will explain us the process to make limoncello…and of course they will give us a taste of it!

This will be a unique experience that will give you the chance to meet local people, learn about the italian lifestlyle and get in touch with our culture.

Note: Optional visit of the farm, picking the lemons and show of limoncello making on request.

ITINERARY:

We meet in Amalfi and we start walking through the historic center in the direction of the valley. On our way we can see the cathedral, the small alleys, the influence of the moorish style in the architecture.

We also enjoy the vibrant atmosphere of this town, very lively and interesting from several point of view.

We leave then the center to take a small paved walk with some steps leading in the deepest part of the valley. We walk close to beautiful terraces cultivated with lemons hanging on wood pergola, a particular system to grow lemon trees.

This is pretty spectacular, everything is very well settled, very well integrated into the landscape, using drywalls and lime stones.

After a while we reach a family farm where we have lunch on a terrace outdoor.
We taste the organic food produced by the farm, prepared with local recipe, with of course lemon juice and limoncello!

The owner of the farm will then explain the process to make limoncello…and the secrets to make a perfect one!
